BRECK CRANDELL
Director of Design
Lead Architect
Breck Crandell, AIA, is an award-winning architect, educator, and design leader dedicated to redefining how housing is conceived, delivered, and experienced. Licensed in Michigan, Illinois, Florida, Ohio, and New Jersey, with additional licensure pending in Arizona, Georgia, New York, and Texas, Breck brings a rare combination of technical expertise, creative vision, and strategic leadership to his role as Director of Design at Three Squared, Inc.
In addition to his work with Three Squared, Breck is the co-founder of Houm, a design technology venture pioneering scalable, AI-driven approaches to modular housing. Houm’s mission—creating smarter, faster, and more attainable homes—aligns with Breck’s career-long pursuit of innovation in building systems. The Cochrane Home, both his personal residence and Houm’s inaugural prototype, received the 2025 AIA Detroit Honor Award for Single-Family Residential and stands as a benchmark for sustainable urban infill. Delivered on time and within budget, it demonstrates the replicable power of modular steel design.

Breck’s professional foundation was shaped by his early work at Hobbs + Black Architects and MBH Architects, where he contributed to high-profile institutional, healthcare, and retail projects, including national Apple and Target rollouts. He holds both a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and a Master of Architecture from Lawrence Technological University, where he was awarded the prestigious Earl Pellerin Traveling Fellowship. His architectural research has taken him to India, Portugal, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and across the United States, exploring the intersection of culture, environment, and design.

“TSI is a vehicle for inspiration. Through collaboration, we can initiate change in this industry.”

A lifelong musician and touring drummer, he has performed over 1,000 live shows nationwide. This creative background informs his architectural work, enriching it with a sensitivity to rhythm, flow, and collaboration. Breck’s voice as a designer and advocate has been featured in Crain’s Detroit Business, Detroit Free Press, Insider, and WDET. He has spoken at events including the AIM Ideas Summit, Detroit Month of Design, the Inspire Conference, and the Urban Land Institute. Across all platforms, his message is consistent: good design should be accessible, high-performing, and rooted in service to people and place.
